LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is for students to understand the role of the family nurse in a newly developed field of nursing practice.

To acquire the necessary knowledge and skills in order to work constructively with all family members. To acquire verbal and non-verbal communication skills with all family members. To promote health so that the family adapts successfully and effectively to the factors that disrupt its proper functioning, with the ultimate goal of the harmonious functioning of the family and the social system.

After the end of the six-month training in the course students will be able to:

  • Identify the functions of the modern family
  • Know the role of the family nurse
  • Describe the strategies and models of intervention and evaluation from the family nurse
  • Apply the steps of the nursing process to the sick family member, to the family as a whole and to the family as a social unit
  • Know how to approach families from different cultural backgrounds

  • Theoretical approaches and definitions of Family Nursing.
  • Family characteristics and demography.
  • Theories and models for family assessment and interventions
  • Skills and roles of the family nurse. Communication skills with family members.
  • Development of counseling for family empowerment, and development of mechanisms for coping with stressful situations. Assessment and management of crisis in the family
  • Psychosocial needs of the family with acute and chronic disease. Covering the needs of families with severely ill patients.
  • Approach and empowerment of families belonging to vulnerable and socially excluded groups.
  • Socio-economic factors that affect the health promotion of families. Social structures and family support resources.
  •  Developing Health Policies for Family Nursing. Developments and prospects.
  • Conceptual definitions in intercultural Family Nursing. Cultural competency in nursing care of the family.
