STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

The written final examination of the course, conducted by the Department, includes:

• Multiple Choice Questions,
• Short Answer Questions,
• Benchmarking of Theory,
• Brief Research Study,
• Questions for Development of Topics.

The grade of the written exam paper (60%) and the individual assignments (40%) form the final grade of the course.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is a core course for the introduction to the concept of Home Health Care Nursing and the philosophy of home health care. It is designed to familiarize the student in the thinking, development and practice of health care in a different environment, at Home, so that it can meet the modern requirements of health systems and users of health services.

The course covers topics related to the introduction of students to basic concepts and peculiarities of Home health Care Nursing, the linking of home health care services with primary health care, the health system and the community in general, and the introduction to the international and Greek framework where the services are organized and operate. Particular emphasis is placed on the complex and crucial role of the nurse in the service, in the interdisciplinary team and in case management, but also in his/her preparation for the evaluation, planning and provision of nursing care at home. In this context, the course is the background on which knowledge and skills acquired from the nursing education combined with the new knowledge and applied effectively in practice in role-playing games and case studies. In this way, the student is motivated to envision and project dimensions of home care, but also to anticipate and formulate suggestions for optimizing services.

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and develop skills for home health care of the population with chronic and acute health problems. The ultimate goal is to properly prepare students to meet the modern requirements of home health care services, patients’ demands for a high standard of quality health care, and the health system’s demands for cost-effective forms of care.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

• Understand the philosophy of home health care and its importance within the Greek health system and internationally
• Develop skills for conducting a home visit
• Designs and implements the plan of care for patients with different health problems at home
• Effectively addresses the needs of health care users (patient / family / caregiver)
• Understand and use the nursing theories on which home nursing care is based for the optimal approach to patients and their problems
• Understand and promote the role of the nurse in home nursing care, as a member of an interdisciplinary team, providing specialized assessment and nursing care to individuals.
• Collaborates with their classmates to design and present a personalized and holistic care plan in a case study.
