LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Promote the mental health of people suffering from mental disorders in all levels of health care services
  • Prevent mental illness or relapse
  • Evaluate and apply, as appropriate, nursing interventions to the mentally ill people and plan their rehabilitation
  • Know and promote the principles of mental health and promote them in all levels of health care services and in the community.
  • Promote personalized counseling in the promotion of mental health.
  • Combine knowledge and skills of nursing counseling, in order to evaluate and manage critical health situations.

SYLLABUS

The course includes:

  • The necessary theoretical knowledge for mental health and illness as well as scientific knowledge for all mental illnesses.
  • The knowledge and skills of nursing assessment of the mentally ill.
  • The nursing methods of treating these patients.
  • The application of the nursing process in the care of the mentally ill.
  • Communication with the mentally ill.
  • The knowledge for the rehabilitation of the mentally ill.
  • The principles and values ​​that govern Counseling as well as its skills.

 

Theoretical part (THEORY)

  • General information about the course Mental Health – Mental Illness. Criteria for mental health and mental illness.
  • Communication – methods of communication with the mentally ill – intercultural approach – Mental functions – Classification of mental illness – personality disorders.
  • Nursing evaluation, responsibility and intervention in patients with Schizophrenia.
  • Detailed forms of schizophrenia and their treatment in the hospital.
  • Nursing responsibility in the medication of the mentally ill – Therapeutic environment – Electroconvulsive therapy – Psychotherapy – Nursing role.
  • Nursing evaluation, responsibility and intervention in patients with anxiety.
  • Nursing evaluation, responsibility and intervention in patients with Suicidal tendencies / Addictions.

Clinical part (LABORATORY)

  • Students are trained in psychiatric hospitals, psychiatric clinics of general hospitals, in mental health shelters and in mental health centers.
