STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Written final exam (30%) which includes:

      • Open ended questions
      • Multiple choice questions
      • Solving problems related to quantitative data of pediatric dose measurements
      • Comparative evaluation of theory data

Presentation of assignment (20%)

Laboratory (50%)

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is for students to acquire knowledge related to the biological, psychological and spiritual needs of the healthy and sick child, as well as the needs of the family. The aim of the course is for students to use the knowledge they receive from the course, in order to distinguish the health problems of the child and the family and to know the ways of applying the nursing care.

At the end of the six-months training in the course students will be able to:

  • To know the normal physical, mental and social development of the child and the factors that affect it.
  • To know the pathology of each system, from infancy to adolescence, and the ways of therapeutic and nursing intervention.

SYLLABUS

THEORY

  • Children’s nursing care, health problems in childhood, mortality, morbidity, the art of pediatric nursing, the role of pediatric nursing, critical thinking and the process of nursing care of children and their families.
  • Family definition, nursing family interventions, family structure, parent roles, parents of adopted children, divorced parents, single-parent family.
  • Family communication and interviewing guidelines, nutrition assessment, general approaches to child screening.
  • Transcultural approach to children’s care.
  • Growth and development, the role of play in development, selected factors that affect development.
  • Pain assessment, pain management, nursing care of the newborn and his/her family.
  • Neonatal problems, high risk newborn care and family, high risk due to immaturity, congenital anomalies.
  • Growth and development knowledge, vaccines, accident prevention.
  • Infectious diseases
  • Abuse – neglect, chronic diseases
  • Diseases of respiratory, digestive system
  • Hematological immunological diseases
  • Urinary system diseases, metabolic diseases.
  • Brain dysfunction, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders

LABORATORY

  • It includes students’ clinical practice in pediatric clinics in Attica hospitals.
