General Disposition

The Nursing Department of the University of West Attica organizes and runs the Postgraduate Study Program (PGSP) entitled “Management of Chronic Diseases” with three specialties: a) Oncological and Palliative Care, b) Diabetes Education and Care and c) Neurosciences. The course has been running since academic year 2018-2019.

  1. Oncology and Palliative Care Scientific Director is Dr Ourania Govina, Associate Professor, Nursing Department, University of West Attica.
  1. Diabetes Education and Care Scientific Director is Dr Eugenia Vlachou, Associate Professor, Department of Nursing, University of West Attica.
  1. Neurosciences Scientific Director is Dr Chrysoula Tsiou, Professor, Department of Nursing, University of West Attica.

 

Objectives of the Course

Primary objective of the specific Master course is the education, knowledge and research in the field of Chronic Diseases Management, with emphasis on integrated, advanced and evidence-based clinical practice.

In general, this course aims to equip the healthcare professionals with skills and knowledge that are needed to provide high quality care and high academic level of specialization regarding chronic patients with Cancer, Diabetes and Neurological diseases.

 

After successful completion of PGSP, postgraduates will be able to:

  • to staff health services requiring special expertise and knowledge in chronic diseases (oncological, diabetic or neurological units)
  • meet the criteria needed for specialized care, and
  • produce and apply new knowledge on every aspect of their field.

 

In particular, postgraduates will be able to work according to their specialty, in:

a) Oncology Units, Palliative Care Centers and Primary Health Care Centers,

b) Diabetes Clinics, Diabetes Centers, Endocrinology and Medical Units and Primary Health Care Centers, and

c) Neurological and Neurosurgical Units and Rehabilitation Centers of Neurological and Neurosurgical Patients.

 

Types of Graduates

Students accepted onto the Postgraduate Study Program must be graduates of Medicine, Nursing (Universities and T.E.I) or other similar disciplines (Midwifery, Psychology, Physiotherapy, etc) at tertiary level.

 

Postgraduate Titles

The PGSP awards a Postgraduate Diploma (MSc) with specialties to (a) “Oncology and Palliative Care” (b) “Diabetes Education and Care” and (c) “Neurosciences”.

After two years of study, graduates can continue with Doctoral studies (PhD).
