LEARNING OUTCOMES

This course is an introduction in the prevention and treatment of the skin integrity problems, chronic ulcers and stomas (enterostomies and urostomies) in a holistic nursing approach context.

This course aims to provide evidence-based knowledge and practices necessary for maintaining skin integrity and preventing skin integrity problems, for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers and chronic ulcers in general, and also necessary for patient’s enterostomy and urostomy care.

By the end of the course, the students should be able:

  • To recognize patients who are at risk of developing skin integrity problems and understand the techniques and materials for their prevention and treatment.
  • To recognize patients who are at risk of developing chronic ulcers and know the techniques and materials for their prevention and treatment.
  • To assess chronic ulcers and know their care techniques and materials.
  • To assess patients with enterostomy or urostomy, be familiar with ostomy care products and their applications, identify ostomy-related problems and know the appropriate nursing interventions to treat them.
  • Educate patients in self-care procedures and their caregivers in home care procedures.
