MSc in Wound Care and Treatment

The Nursing Department of the Faculty of Health and Care Sciences, of the University of West Attica has organized and operated since the Academic Year 2014-15, the Postgraduate Program (MSc program) on ” Wound Care and Treatment”.

Purpose of the course

The purpose of this course is the promotion of the scientific knowledge and research, ensuring a high level studies and expertise so that its participants acquire a strong scientific background in the field of wounds and sore, acute and chronic.

Aim of the course

The aim of this course is to educate and refine young scientists in the broad and growing field of Wound / Ulcer Care and Treatment. The registered students come from diverse allied fields, a fact that enriches the mutual interaction and interdisciplinary discussion and approach on the subject.

Main Objectives of the program are:

 

  1. Providing knowledge on current developments in the management of acute and chronic wounds and ulcers.
  2. Development of research in the field of new technologies related to the healing of chronic wounds and ulcers.
  3. Development of scientists with the skills required for successful careers in the private, public and academic sector in the field of prevention, care and treatment of chronic wounds and ulcers.
  4. Development of scientists with the skills required in treating  stomies.
  5. Development of scientists to meet the training needs for continuous training in the workplace.
  6. Providing specialized knowledge and techniques in the future professionals of the wider area of health, in rapidly growing sectors of the academic field.
  7. Staffing of the Nursing Units   and especially intensive care units (trauma, burns) and Emergency   Department  by qualified scientists.
  8. Staffing of the Mobile Units for services in pre-hospital level.
  9. Contribution to the improvement of the health system.

 

The graduates of the course would be able to:

 

  • Plan and implement nursing care in patients with acute and chronic wounds and ulcers
  • Participate and develop research in the field of new technologies related to the healing of chronic wounds and ulcers
  • Organize and manage teams for wounds and ulcers caring and treatment at every level of organized health care system as in each level of administrative responsibility
  • Staff hospitals and outpatient structures of the public and private sector

 

The postgraduate course leads to the award of a postgraduate degree in “MSc in Wound Care and Treatment” from the University of West Attica.

Admission to the Postgraduate Studies Program is regulated by Article 4 of the Official Gazette No.3312/10.08.18. Graduates of the fields of Nursing, Medicine, Obstetrics and Health Visitors of Greek and accredited Foreign Higher Education Institutions, are accepted to enroll in the program.

Course duration

The duration of the program is four academic semesters. The first, second and third semester include teaching (tutorials, clinical training tutorials, laboratory exercises and examination). In the fourth semester the master thesis is conducted. The thesis is written in Greek language with additional summary in English. For obtaining the “MSc in Wound Care and Treatment”, the attendance and the successful examination of mandatory and elective courses is required.

Τhe annual number of participants is fixed,  maximum of (30) thirty graduate students per year. Graduate students with scholarships are admitted to the program further to the fixed annual number of participants.
