LEARNING OUTCOMES

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The course aims to provide students with theoretical and clinical knowledge for acquiring skills and attitudes in providing integrated nursing care for people with different cultures; to prepare them to recognize cultural development models, the health needs of people from different cultures and apply health promotion and quality care interventions to individuals, families and groups with sensitivity.

The aim of the course is to develop methods of approaching individuals through intercultural care. To analyze different theoretical approaches to intercultural care. To promote the development of students’ skills and to cultivate knowledge applied to local national minorities. To articulate students’ perceptions regarding the application of basic nursing care in diverse cultural groups.

After the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Discuss the concepts of culture, health and disease and their relationship to different cultures
  • Describe the basic theoretical models, the basic concepts of intercultural nursing
  • Report the factors that affect the health status of immigrants
  • Identify the rights of people from different cultures
  • Recognize the parameters of the quality of intercultural care in different age groups
  • Report the factors that affect the provision of care to different population groups
  • Estimate the health care professionals’ potentials in handling crisis situations
  • Identify the cultural factors associated with mental illness and intercultural nursing interventions
  • Recognize cultural sensitivity in caring for patients with diverse cultural backgrounds
