LEARNING OUTCOMES
After the end of the course students will be able to:
- Describe the various forms of health care systems and the national health care system.
- To analyze and distinguish the importance of Primary Health Care and Public Health Care.
- To identify, recognize the risks to public health, the factors that affect health and to analyze issues of health promotion and education.
- Indicate the characteristics of Nursing Primary Health Care, as well as the means and resources available to meet the health care needs of the population.
- To use the acquired knowledge to deal with the individual’s health problems as these evolve.
- To know the function of the family and the risks of family health.
- Describe techniques for maintaining the health of the individual and the family.
General skills
- Search, analysis and synthesis of data and information, using the necessary technologies.

The aim of the course is for students to understand the different forms of health systems and the importance of Primary Health Care; to understand the role of the Nurse in maintaining the health of the individual and the family and to acquire the necessary knowledge about the evaluation of the individual evolutionarily from pregnancy to old age.

THEORY
- Health Care Systems – Information on Healthcare Systems structure.
- National Health System and Health Care Units – Introduction to Primary Health Care.
- Community Nursing and Primary Health Care – The Nature and Characteristics of Community Nursing – Designing, Implementing and Evaluating Community Health – The Role of the Community Nurse in Primary Health Care.
- Prevention (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Prevention) – Health Promotion-Raising Awareness on Health Education in Individuals and Populations.
- Family-Family Definitions and Family Functions-Family Structure-Family Health-Methods to Address Family Health Needs- Interventions to maintain the health of the individual and the family.
- Family Health Risks-Concepts to Family Health Risks-Major Family Health Risks and Nursing Interventions-Community Nursing Intervention to Reduce Family Health Risks (Home Visits), Community Resources.
- Prenatal Control-Family Planning-Contraception and Methods of Contraception-Pregnancy and Nursing care of pregnant and puerperal women in the Community.

- Prevention of risk factors and childhood health problems (sensory disorders, common orthopedic problems, eating disorders, learning difficulties, autism).
- Adolescent Nursing Care – Preventing risk factors in adolescents (addictive substances, unwanted pregnancy and violent situations, sexually transmitted diseases, eating problems).

LABORATORY
- It includes training of students supervised by teachers at health care centers, community clinics and other structures providing PHC services in the Community.
