The aim of course is to enable students to understand the meaning of the drug, to learn drug categories by disease and system, to obtain skills in terms of drug administration (dose calculation for individual patient etc.)

 

Course Outline

 

SYLLABUS

Theory

  • Principles of Drug Action. Absorption, Distribution, Excretion of Medicines. Drug metabolism
  • Adverse effects of drug. Addiction. Routes of administration – doses – dose calculation
  • Drugs that act on Central Nervous System – Mechanism of drug action, sympathetic drugs (adrenaline … ..), parasympathetic drugs (atropine …)
  • CNS depressants – Anticonvulsants – Antipsychotics – tests, dose calculation
  • Antibiotics (mode of action – β-lactam antibiotics – aminoglycosides – quinolones – tetracyclines – antibiotics against anaerobic microorganisms). Tests – dose calculation
  • Antifungal, antiviral
  • Drugs that act on the digestive system (Stomach: Against Excretion of Hyperactivity (Mechanics of Action) and Mobility-Antiemetics.
  • Bowel: Mechanism of Action (Antidiarrheal, against constipation ) tests, dose calculation.
  • Drugs that act on the Circulatory System. Medicines that treat angina pectoris. medicines for heart failure. Antihypertensive drugs, exercises, dose calculation. Drugs used in Cardiovascular Arrhythmias, Drugs Affecting Blood Coagulation, Drugs for Dyslipidemias, tests, dose calculations.
  • Anti-inflammatory analgesics, cortisone, narcotics, analgesics, tests, dose calculation.
  • Drugs associated with endocrine glands, pituitary gland hormones, and thyroid hormones. Drugs associated with: parathyroid gland function, adrenal cortex hormones and pancreas hormones. Insulin, genital hormones. Tests, dose calculations.
  • Drugs for respiratory system, tests, dose calculation.
  • Antineoplastic agents, Drugs acting on hematopoiesis, target drugs, drugs against gene abnormalities.
