Role and stakeholder analysis in a brief case study
Comparative evaluation of theory elements
Laboratory. Evaluation of the student’s participation in nursing practices in the Community (50%)
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The aim of the course is to facilitate students’ understanding on the role of the community nurse, to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for meeting the contemporary requirements of Primary Health Care services, and for providing comprehensive preventive and therapeutic nursing, to families and groups in the Community, in all age groups and in all health and disease situations.
At the end of the course students will be able to:
- Define the meaning and characteristics of the community and Community Nursing
- To evaluate the needs of the community through the nursing process.
- Demonstrate skills in conducting a home visit
- Assess the health status of individuals / families / groups / population within the frame of the nursing process.
- To plan and perform primary, secondary and tertiary nursing interventions, and to evaluate their results.
- To identify and use effectively the available community means and resources for meeting the health needs of community individuals and population, and for preventing, promoting, maintaining and restoring their health.
- Recognize and develop Health Education opportunities, design and implement health promotion programs.
- Assess the health of the living, working, educational, and community environment in general.
- Describe the role of the Community Nurse in the interdisciplinary health care team.

SYLLABUS
THEORY
- Primary Health Care and Community Nursing-Historical Development of Primary Care and Community Nursing in Greece and internationally – Legislation on Primary Health Care and Community Nursing.
- Community – Definition and purposes of the Community. Ways of organization and operation, in Europe and internationally, Greek reality-Education in community nursing internationally and in Greece.
- Organization of Primary Health Care Services – Interconnection with social care services. Working with the interdisciplinary team.
- Organizing and providing comprehensive nursing care within the community – Community needs assessment and Nursing Care planning. Nursing care in the community for people with different cultural backgrounds.
- Nursing theories and nursing models within the community (Neuman, Callista Roy) – The Nursing Process in the Community.
- Analysis of the role of community nurse in Health Centers, family, schools, workplaces, social activities and sports.
- Children’s health, teenagers health, elderly’s health – people with disabilities and vulnerable groups of all ages.
- Women’s health, men’s health, family health – Family care.
- Values and beliefs. Culture and Community-Intercultural Communities and the Position of Nursing-Health of Farmers and Immigrants.

LABORATORY
Includes training for students, supervised by teachers, at Health Care Centers, Community Hospitals, Elderly Protection Centres (KAPI) other Primary Health Care Services in the Community, home visits, assessment of individuals and family, care planning and nursing interventions to promote health and prevention of illness, visits to schools and conducting health promotion programs for students, industries and other workplaces.
