LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to introduce students to the basic concepts of Endocrinology – Diabetes Nursing Care of individuals. In particular, it refers to basic concepts of the Endocrine System, the physiological function and action of hormones, their disturbance, the main endocrine diseases and especially Diabetes Mellitus, their diagnosis and treatment, the nursing interventions of acute and chronic endocrine problems of people of all ages.

The aim of the course is to enable students to provide comprehensive and individualized nursing care to people with endocrine disorders, particularly those with Diabetes Mellitus.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Know the physiological actions and disorders of hormones.
  • Know the main diseases of the endocrine system
  • Assess the health status of people with endocrine disease.
  • Organize, direct and implement guidelines for patient care.
  • Provide comprehensive and individualized nursing care to individuals and their families.
  • Adapt to new technology situations related to Diabetes Mellitus to provide nursing care for individuals of all ages.
  • Provide information about services and clubs available to support individuals e.g. camps for children with diabetes mellitus.
  • Design and implements integrated nursing care management programs for people with endocrine disorders.
  • Work independently in situations related to home care for individuals.
  • Works collaboratively and interdisciplinary in integrated care management programs for individuals with diabetes mellitus.
