STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Written final exam (50%) which includes:

    • Development questions
    • Multiple choice questions
    • Comparative evaluation of theory elements

Laboratory (50%) (Work Presentation (20%).

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Promote the mental health of individuals suffering from mental disorders in all care settings.
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of mental disorders during clinical assessment and history taking
  • Use classification systems (NANDA, DSM, ICD) to organize care for mental disorders
  • Apply the nursing process to provide nursing care to individuals and families with biopsychosocial needs related to mental health problems.
  • Distinguish between therapeutic and non-therapeutic communication techniques, identifying the importance of non-verbal communication and taking into account the cultural differences that exist between individuals and their caregivers.
  • Assess during the triage process in emergency care.
  • Administer and monitor psychopharmacological treatment regimens.
  • Organize a recovery plan in collaboration with the client with a focus on connection with others, hope for the future, the identity of the individual, the meaning of life and the empowerment of the individual and their family.
  • Deal with crisis situations, such as aggressive behavior, suicidal tendencies and self-harm, applying appropriate therapeutic approaches and interventions.
  • Carry out an assessment and implement individualized nursing interventions for individuals with mental health problems, co-forming the recovery plan
  • Implement interventions to prevent and treat relapse in mental illness and stabilization interventions
  • Combine knowledge and skills of Counseling Nursing, in order to individually manage the needs of individuals with mental disorders and their families.
  • Contribute to psychoeducation on self-care issues, promoting the autonomy of the individual in family and social life.
  • Recognize mental disorders in children and adolescents, describe the specificities and adapt care to these age groups.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for legal/ethical aspects in the provision of nursing care to individuals and their families with mental health needs.
  • Collaborate within the interdisciplinary team.

The purpose of the course is to provide students with basic, theoretical knowledge, skills, attitudes and principles related to the practice of mental health nursing and to direct Nursing Students to acquire knowledge and skills related to the application of evidence-based practices aimed at addressing the crisis, recovery and prevention of relapse, psycho-emotional support and empowerment of individuals with mental disorders and their families.

  • Forensic Psychiatric Nursing. Nursing Ethics in the field of Mental Health. Artificial intelligence and institutional framework.

LABORATORY

  • Students will have clinical practice in Psychiatric hospitals and Psychiatric units of General hospitals.
