STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

  • The written final examination of the subject, held by the Department, includes: Multiple Choice Questions, Short Answer Questions, Comparative analysis of theoretical issues, a Brief Research Study, Questions for Development of Topics.
  • The grade of the written exam paper (80%) and the individual assignments (20%) form the final grade of the subject.

All students have access to the written exam papers and the corrected assignments at the professor’s office.

In the first lesson the students are informed in writing about the weekly course schedule which is also posted on the course’s e-class website. They are also informed verbally and in writing about the way they are evaluated.

Students are taught during the lessons about the basic and specialized issues of the course that they should be aware of and the corresponding questions and exercises are evaluated. Analytically, at the beginning of the semester, an assignment with specific characteristics is assigned to each student individually, which the student presents to his fellow students. They may also complete assignments in groups.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course is a basic introductory course in the concept and content of Occupational Health and Safety.

The course aims to introduce students to the basic Concepts and Implications of Work at Health as well as Health at Work. The following are also mentioned and analyzed: Legislation on the health and safety of employees, Chemical hazards and target organs in the human body, Physical and Biological hazards to employees, Occupational Ergonomics Principles, Occupational Risk Assessment and Training for the prevention of accidents at work. In this sense the course is the basis on which the student acquires an overall understanding of the relationship between Health and Safety in the Workplace.

The aim of the course is students to understand the two-way relationship between Work and Health. The study and analysis (identification, measurement, evaluation) of physical, chemical, biological and ergonomic factors that affect the health of employees and the role of the Nurse. The identification of occupational hazards that may cause injury to employees and the contribution of Nursing.

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Understand the principles, goals and objectives of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Participate in the design of an effective policy to protect against work-related hazards in relation to environmental conditions.
  • Understand the contribution of Occupational Health and Safety to Public Health and health promotion.
  • Understand how to properly implement and adopt security systems.
  • Adapts to new situations of technology and know-how in the field of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Works in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Realize the future role of the Nurse in the labor market as a staff of Occupational Health Services in order to maintain and promote the physical, mental and mental health of employees.
