LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Recognize the characteristics of formulation and composition and the composition of the scientific English language and their specialty
- Understand the English nursing bibliography
- To attend and make an oral presentation of topics of their specialty participating in a discussion and/or composing a concise and/or extensive written text with linguistic fluency using required scientific terminology of their subject

The aim of the course is to enable the students to develop the skill of the English language as to facilitate communication and academic needs in nursing working environment.
Course Outline
SYLLABUS
The curriculum, consisting of 15 modules, includes a reader with supplementary material – theory and tests – and various handouts. To facilitate students a catalog of printed literature is proposed, although the use of technological means – especially the Internet – is a valuable teaching tool which provides the opportunity to find and select a lot of information (ELT News, May 2008, p. 14). The topics include:
- Practical First Aid
- Dressing and bandages, Joint and Muscle injuries, Blood circulation, Unconsciousness
- The body as a whole
- Effects of illness and handicap on children
- Nursing care of children of various ages
- Care of the elderly person
- Care of patients with problems relating to the gastrointestinal tract and other abdominal organs
- Orthopedic patients
- Oncological nursing management
- Blood transfusions, blood disorders
- Immunization and care of patients with infection (AIDS)
